"Lot of people ask me what makes you different from other web design agencies. Firstly about the name; Webmirer means Web + Admirer which admires the possibilities of the web and promotes the benefits of the web. And the second thing is that it has been born out of matters close to heart.

The Opportunity

While I was studying at University of Central England which is now Birmingham City University, I was invited to do the website of department of health and rehabilitation.

Very soon I learned that there was something special about this website was meant to be used by people with various degree of visual impairment, from total blindness to partial blindness.

The Eye Opener

This was an eye opener for me as this was the first time I could see people with visual impairment use computers, specially websites to get on with their lives. Although the website which I made was useful to them, there were complaints that there aren't many websites which take care of their needs in mind.

That gave me impetus to build a website design company which will work with local businesses, charities etc. to create website which works for them but more importantly are usable by people with disabilities.

The Journey

In this journey though I also came to know that search engines such as google, yahoo, msn read the websites in same way as screen readers do, which is the software which read out pages for people with visual impairment, and the result is the websites usable to the website owner but also usable for the diverse audience.

The Law

Although Disability discrimination act makes it unlawful for websites to be not usable to people with disabilities, the uptake has been very less as the approach has been more of a stick approach but hs'nt drawn much attention to the benefits of web accessibility.

The Effort

If my effort can make difference to one persons life, I would be happy. Remember, the difference between individuals is access to information and what they do with that information. I know that we are at a stage where technology makes it possible to make internet a level playing field and lets go for it."
