In the new wave of mergers and acquisitions, Microsoft has agreed to buy internet telephony service Skype. Skype have been owned by Ebay in 2006 in but 70% was sold to a group of investors in 2009.

According to Milward Brown, a WPP owned research company, Apple has topped its list of annual top 100 brand global list. The list called Brandz has seen the end of Google's four year supremacy on the top of the list, the spot which is now owned by Apple. Apple has an estimated increase of 84% in value to £93bn.

The insatiable apetite of people to get onto social networking sites such as twitter, facebook, myspace, linkedin has led to a surge in social media enabled smartphones.
